The public transport operator in Amsterdam GVB has selected the Spanish company CAF, Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, S.A., to deliver 30 new vehicles of its new future M7 series.
The three-car metro train sets will be equipped with Traktionssysteme Austria‘s sound-optimized next generation traction motors. The energy efficiency of the drives was improved in order to meet the high standards, in particular the requirements regarding the low weight and the smooth maintenance.
The M7 metros will be equipped for semi-automatic operation which will be replaced by unattended operation in the future. The 60 m long trains with modern information systems for the passengers will run at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. Entry into service is planned for mid 2021.
